A nice big welcome goes out to Scott Silver, who will be playing our hero, Timothy Locke.

Changes to Freedom The Series

The last day or so has brought some difficult changes to Freedom. We have decided not to base the story in the Firefly 'verse. While we would love to play in the 'verse that Joss Whedon has created, Fox owns the rights to it, and they could at any point come in and tell us that we aren't allowed to use their intellectual property. The people helping us to create the show, as well as the viewers, deserve to have a well made, completed project, and in order to do that, we have decided to make this an entirely original series. The story and characters were always original, so this will require very little rewrite. There will be several nods to popular science fiction, especially Firefly.

Auditions will still be held this Saturday, and filming will start in the next couple months. Overall, the project plan will change very little. Our hero just won't be wearing a brown coat, and the characters won't randomly break into Chinese.

Music and artwork inspired by Firefly is still welcome in the show. These artists have always impressed me, and we would be proud to feature their work.

We still plan to give the show away for free on the internet when it is completed, but this will allow us to also sell dvds and merchandise related to the show. This does mean a little more paperwork, but it will enable the show to go on much longer.

The Browncoat community deserves more Firefly, and we will continue to support it in any way we can. We may even revisit the idea of making Firefly fan films in the future. We will also keep supporting the multiple charities that have benefited from the fandom. We know that the community will continue to support a web series created by Browncoats who love science fiction in all forms.

Mysti Sadler cast as Ava Kenshin

Mysti Sadler will be taking on our lead female role as Ava Kenshin. I have worked with her on a few short films, including a music video and a Batman fan film. She's a very skilled and versatile actress, and will certainly bring a lot to the project.

Looking For Filming Space

We are looking for a place to build a set for Freedom's interior, which is about the size of a Star Trek shuttle. This could fit inside a garage without much trouble. Set construction would begin in October or November, and filming would begin in January or February.

We will also need a place for a space station interior. This will be similar to the beginning of the Firefly episode "The Message" (where Jayne gets his hat), or the Promenade from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Filming will occur around February or March.

Any assistance will of course be included in the credits. We would be happy to promote your organization. Feel free to contact us at freedomtheseries@gmail.com.

The Story

The Writer's Bible is complete, and the first draft of the pilot episode is finished, with work already started on each of the remaining episodes.

The About The Characters page has been updated with the three main characters for the show. We plan on casting on November.

If you would like to get involved in the review process, head on over to the forums. You'll find links to the Writer's Bible, the scripts, and discussions on each. Just remember that while we will keep our home page spoiler-free, the forums (and even the character bios) hold nothing back.

More Music!

Another great musician has agreed to let us use her music. Check out 'Verse - this will add some great contrast. Amazing stuff.

Music

Philip De Lorenzo will be providing our score. He's an amazing musician that I'm sure we'll be hearing more from.

We'll also have some songs from the lovely and talented Marian Call. If you haven't heard her music, give the song below a try.

Forums Are Up

We'd love to have feedback on all aspects of the show, so we've set up a forum for just that purpose. It's also an easy place to volunteer for other aspects of the show.

But be warned - when it says "Writer's Room," it really is. We're not holding anything back here. There'll be lots of spoilers.

Announcing Freedom: The Series

Freedom is fan series inspired by the 'verse created by Joss Whedon for Firefly and Serenity. It is completely not for profit, and will be given away for free on the internet.

Our creative process will be as transparent as possible - we'll even be posting the scripts online and asking for feedback. We want this to be made by the fans, because there are no fans like Firefly fans.

We will gladly accept donations, except that we cannot accept any money. If you would like to donate your time, talents, 'verse-ish props, or anything else, then let us know.
